HISTORY | Commonwealth War Graves Commission Presentation

Knutsford residents are invited to discover the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission
As Remembrance Sunday approaches, Knutsford residents are invited to attend a special presentation by historian and researcher Mark Relf on the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), learning more about the organisation’s vital role in commemorating those who lost their lives in the World Wars and other conflicts.
The event will take place at 2pm on Thursday 5 November 2026 at Centennial Place, 28 Northwich Road, Knutsford, WA16 0AW.
The presentation will explore the CWGC’s work, both past and present. The organisation cares for war graves at 23,000 locations across more than 150 countries and territories, commemorating almost 1.7 million Commonwealth men and women who died during the two World Wars.
Councillor Bryan Hartley said: “At this important time of year, it is vital that we remember the sacrifices made by so many and recognise the essential work carried out by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to ensure they are never forgotten. I hope residents will come along, learn more about their work and consider how we can support them in continuing this important task.”
Visitors will also be welcome to explore the Remembrance Garden at Centennial Place, a peaceful space lovingly maintained by local residents. Organisers are keen to hear suggestions and ideas on how the garden could be improved and enhanced for the benefit of the wider community.
Complimentary refreshments will be available, providing an opportunity to meet others and enjoy a friendly chat.
Tickets are free but strictly limited, so advance booking is essential.
To reserve a place, contact Howard Atkins on 07736 411319 or email ho***********@***il.com.
Residents are encouraged to attend, find out more about the CWGC and share their thoughts on how Knutsford can continue to honour those who gave their lives in service.
