Discover Arley Hall & Gardens

The Hall
Arley Hall, standing on the same site as the original family hall built in 1469, is a remarkable example of historic architecture. The present Hall was constructed between 1832 and 1845 by Rowland Egerton-Warburton, with George Latham of Nantwich as the architect. Situated at the heart of the estate, the Hall overlooks the famous Gardens and beautifully landscaped Park. The house is constructed from Hollington stone. The Hall is open periodically each month, so please check the “What’s On” page of the website for opening dates.

The Gardens
Among the finest in Europe, the Gardens at Arley have been created over the last 270 years by successive generations of the same family. They feature two distinct areas: 8 acres of formal gardens and 7 acres of Woodland Garden, complete with a children’s play area. There is always something for everyone to enjoy. Dogs are also welcomed at Arley Hall as long as they are on a lead.

Discover Quarry Bank

Quarry Bank is a place of stark contrast, where the power of the Industrial Revolution meets the beauty of picturesque gardens and lush countryside. Here, you can explore a complete industrial community and experience the vastly different worlds of the owners and workers who lived and laboured side by side.

At the heart of Quarry Bank is the cotton mill. Visitors can discover what it was like to work there, witnessing heritage machinery in action. Feel the floors shake beneath your feet as the spinning machines turn and the looms weave, and learn about Samuel Greg, the founder of Quarry Bank.

The Greg family home, Quarry Bank House, offers a glimpse into the lives of the mill owners. Wander through the stunning gardens that rise up the banks of the river valley, offering breathtaking views and changing scenery through the seasons. By contrast, a guided tour of the Apprentice House reveals the harsh lives of the pauper children who worked in the mill.

Stroll to Styal village to see where many workers lived. Styal remains a thriving community, so please be mindful of residents’ privacy.

Harry Styles Tour Holmes Chapel

Harry Styles Home Town Tour

Knutsford is only 8 miles away from Holmes Chapel, the town where possibly the biggest global star on the planet grew up (ok, maybe second after Taylor Swift).

If you are one of the ‘Harries’ then you already know the town hosts a tour where you can visit the bakery where he worked, buy some Harry-themed memorabilia, and sign the ‘Harry wall.’ So go on the tour and afterwards come into Knutsford. He was seen in the town not long after he joined One Direction. Probably because the nightlife is better (sorry Holmes Chapel!)
