SUMMARY:HERITAGE OPEN DAYS | Willow Weaving Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Try your hand at the traditional craft of willow weaving in this interactive workshop. \n\n\n\n\nAs part of Knutsford’s Heritage Open Days\, try your hand at the traditional craft of willow weaving in this interactive workshop. Learn basic weaving techniques and create your own handmade piece while discovering a craft that has been part of everyday life for centuries. \nThere is something deeply rooted within us that longs to create\, to bring something into the world using our own two hands. Weaving is one of the oldest crafts in human history and evidence of early weaving practices\, pre-dating the Paleolithic era\, has been found all around the world. \nIt is so much a part of our ancestral heritage that it can feel more like a ‘remembering’\, rather than a ‘learning’. \nOur workshops give you the chance to try this ancient craft for yourself\, to learn new skills and take home something beautiful and handmade that you can be proud of. \nYou will find a warm and welcoming space and a friendly and supportive group within which to rest and to create . \nWhile this workshop is suitable for beginners\, working with willow can be hard on the hands and does require a good level of hand strength and dexterity. \nKnutsford Market Hall is wheelchair accessible and has a disabled toilet. \nBooking required – please book via the eventbrite link below.

SUMMARY:EXHIBITION | From Venice to Cheshire: The Grand Tour Story behind Tatton Park's Library
DESCRIPTION:Step inside the hidden world of Tatton Park’s historic library and uncover the fascinating journeys behind its remarkable books. \nJoin PhD researcher Rachel Daley to discover how rare books from across Europe found their way to Tatton Park through the travels and ambitions of Samuel Hill and his nephew Samuel Egerton. From the canals of Venice to the libraries of England\, this talk explores the world of the eighteenth-century Grand Tour\, where books\, art\, and collecting became symbols of taste\, status\, and curiosity. \nThrough beautiful and rare items from the collection\, Rachel reveals the people\, stories\, and European influences that helped shape Tatton Park’s library into a window onto eighteenth-century culture and travel. \nPerfect for anyone interested in history\, books\, travel\, art\, or uncovering the hidden stories behind historic collections. \nThis event supports the fascinating ‘Beyond the View: Canaletto’ exhibition and your ticket includes entry to view this on the day of the talk. The event takes place in Lord Egerton’s Apartment\, overlooking Tatton Park’s award winning gardens. \nThe talk is free but booking is required to secure a place. Parkland entry is payable at the Gate. Mansion entry fees also apply. Please see prices here.
