SUMMARY:MUSIC | The John Hackett Band and Ms Amy Birks
DESCRIPTION:THE JOHN HACKETT BAND \nThe John Hackett Band embodies the spirit of progressive rock. From John’s pastoral flute textures\, through the funky interplay between drummer Duncan Parsons and bassist Jeremy Richardson to the intricacies of Nick Fletcher’s lead guitar the group embrace pop\, rock\, jazz\, classical\, funk and all stops in-between\, from the tenderest of ballads to hair-raising instrumental workouts! \nJohn Hackett has been a much-loved and admired figure in the progressive rock scene since the mid-70’s; best-known for his flute work with his brother\, former Genesis guitarist\, Steve Hackett on albums such as Voyage of The Acolyte\, Sketches of Satie and Please Don’t Touch alongside his own solo albums Checking Out Of London\, Another Life and The Piper Plays His Tune \n“Nick Fletcher is probably the best jazz rock guitarist in the country. His fluency is astounding\, plus he possesses a first-rate classical guitar technique to boot! I consider Nick Fletcher to be an absolute star” Steve Hackett \n“The band have never sounded better\, and they are musically as tight as a drum skin.” David Edwards\, The Progressive Aspect – March 2024 \nMS AMY BIRKS \nMs Amy Birks is an award-winning English singer\, songwriter\, and musician renowned for her evocative blend of chamber pop and progressive influences. She first gained prominence as the lead vocalist and lyricist for the Beatrix Players\, whose debut album\, Magnified\, was released in 2017. Following the group’s disbandment\, Birks embarked on a solo career\, releasing her debut album\, All That I Am & All That I Was\, in 2020. Her sophomore album\, In Our Souls\, released in 2022\, draws inspiration from literary figures like the Brontë sisters\, reflecting her deep appreciation for literature. After a hiatus following their 2017 debut\, Magnified\, Beatrix Players reformed with Birks at the helm with the critically acclaimed Living & Alive\, released on September 22\, 2023. Drawing comparisons to artists such as Kate Bush\, Fleetwood Mac and Jethro Tull\, Amy takes to the stage with two of her Beatrix Players’ bandmates\, John Hackett & Matthew Lumb\, to perform an intimate set from her back catalogue.

SUMMARY:COMMUNITY | Celebrate PRIDE at Dexter & Jones!
DESCRIPTION:A couple of months ago we were approached to help put on Knutsford’s very first PRIDE…and how the hell were we ever going to say no to that! \nIf you don’t know what PRIDE is…in a nutshell it’s a celebration of everything that makes us different\, recognition of the beauty of those differences\, and promotion of the rights of each of us to be ourselves. This incredible movement helps bring about positivity and celebration in the face of prejudice and stigma. The central idea is to bring about respect and acceptance through having a bloody good party and showing everyone how we are all the same deep down. \nOn Saturday 23rd of August we will be welcoming Drag Queen “Paris Baby” in to Dexters from 7pm for an ADULT ONLY evening of naughtiness and scandal\, as well as her dropping an insane set on the decks with a DJ set to see us into the night. \nThen on Sunday 24th in the KING EDWARDS COURT CARPARK we are holding a family friendly event from 2-8pm. There will be stalls selling food\, sweet treats and ice cream…face painting\, games and raffles…and performances from local bands and dance troops. \nThen at 6pm a headline act from THE KING BRASSTARDS. If you have never heard of these guys…think similar to Classic Ibiza who we hosted a couple of years back…but playing as a Brass Band!!! They are utterly brilliant and perform a huge variety of sounds from modern dance tracks to 50s swing…but all reinvented as a 5 piece band with a mix of Drums\, Saxophone\, Trombone\, Trumpet\, Sousaphone and Vocals. They are not to be missed! \nThe awesome Paul “Monkey” Langley will then be DJing from 6-8pm…with the possibility of a top secret surprise performance tucked in there somewhere too (so secret I don’t even know what it is yet!!!) \nEveryone is welcome…hell even the dogs (there will be mobile dog washing while you wait!)…and it promises to be an amazing Family Day out of celebration! \nThe event itself is being organised in aid of the Proud Trust which helps support individuals AND their families as they go on their own journeys of discovering who they are. \nAmazingly this whole day of family fun is FREE! Yes no tickets needed…but any donations that can be made would be greatly appreciated on the day. Also if there is any way you feel you could get involved please do get in touch…from raffle prizes\, to PERFORMING…then please reach out to us at info@dexterandjones.co.uk

SUMMARY:MUSIC FEST | Saturday Night Blues With The Vincent Flatts Band
DESCRIPTION:This years Saturday night of the festival is a big one\, Saturday Night Blues at Knutsford Little Theatre is set to have you dancing in your seats! Headlined by the Vincent Flatts Band with local Duo Simister and Small returning to open the night this is an evening of great music! \nArmed-to-the-teeth with new and original music\, Vincent Flatts Final Drive are going full bore into 2024. Nothing but full-on\, southern-infused\, good-time\, country rock ‘n’ roll. \nAnd it won’t come retail. Wholesale only. Keep your eyes peeled for a gallon of new songs\, all released online\, and a tanker-load of gigs at venues up-and-down the country and beyond. \nNow\, if you don’t know the band yet\, you’ll feel like you do once you see them live. Stephen “Bertie” Burton fronts the band\, and his killer voice and come-one-come-all stage presence hits every last person right between the eyes. Come see for yourself. He’s the real deal. \nIn the 80s\, Bertie fronted UK rock band Starfighters\, touring the USA with AC/DC on their Back in Black tour and Ozzy Osbourne on his Diary of a Madman tour. \nIn the 90s he fell in love with country music. The real kind. And it was then the Flatts was born. Fast forward 20 years and Bertie’s high-octane\, no-holds barred approach to life and living took its toll. \nAfter some much-needed time out\, he joined three other musicians (each nearly half his age) to reform his baby. Together\, they’ve become a force\, with critics likening their live performances to legends like Little Feat\, and modern acts like Blackberry Smoke and the Zac Brown Band. \nSince then\, the band has performed at venues and festivals across the UK\, Europe and Scandinavia. They’ve also recorded an EP\, an album and have a whole slew of new material set to be released throughout 2024. \nSo\, watch out. This year\, the band has gone wholesale. All or nothing. \nOpening the night\, local band\, Simister & Small Blues Duo\, return for their third appearance at Knutsford Festival. \nOn visits to the USA David Simister (guitar) has appeared at Rosa’s and Buddy Guy’s in Chicago and Chris Small (vocal\, harmonica) at Ground Zero Mississippi and on King Biscuit Time in Arkansas. \nRegulars on the North West Blues scene\, their major upcoming performances in 2025 include Colne Blues Festival\, Sale Festival\, and Chorlton Arts Festival\, having previously appeared in 2022\, 2023 and 2024 at Colne and Chorlton \, and 2024 at Sale Sports Club. Their sound and arrangements are original and authentic\, capturing the spirit of the blues at its best. \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:MUSIC FEST | Mark Radclilffe Presents An Evening With Katherine Priddy
DESCRIPTION:Mark Radcliffe\, star of BBC radio\, presents the opening night of Knutsford Music Festival 2025 with an evening of the finest folk music headed up by Katherine Priddy. This event is expected to be a sell out so get your tickets early to avoid disappointment! \nKatherine fist performed at the festival in 2023 and after rave reviews she is back for 2025! \nFebruary 2024 saw the release of Katherine Priddy’s eagerly awaited second album: The Pendulum Swing. Greeted by critical acclaim in the press including MOJO who called it “simply brilliant”\, the album landed at #1 in the official UK Folk Charts. It saw the likes of Iggy Pop\, Guy Garvey\, Craig Charles\, Mark Radcliffe and Gideon Coe giving it a spin whilst RTE in Ireland added tracks to their recommendations list for 3 weeks running. \nWith her biggest headline tour to date selling out most cities and her reputation growing\, she was asked to perform on the legendary Later.. with Jools Holland (25th May) on BBC Two. She now returns for the final run of The Pendulum Swing Tour in March 2025. \nSince Richard Thompson chose Priddy as “The Best Thing I’ve Heard All Year” in Mojo Magazine on the strength of her 2018 “Wolf” EP\, her star has risen exponentially. Winning fans from Guy Garvey\, Mark Radcliffe\, Stuart Maconie and the late Janice Long and garnering glowing press reviews across the board for The Eternal Rocks Beneath. Her live performances are engaging\, moving and amusing by turn\, delivering original songs with emotional maturity\, depth and particularly noteworthy lyrics. Despite the delicate nuances of her sound\, Katherine Priddy is not a fragile wallflower\, but a determined young woman making her mark. \nwww.katherinepriddy.co.uk \nKatherine is joined for the evening by Mark Radcliffe and Dave Boardman. \nMark and David are singing\, song-writing\, strumming and swigging buddies from the badlands of the Cheshire Plain. They have played across the UK at various venues and festivals and have also performed in Spain and Portugal. \nRadcliffe\, once half of legendary radio double-act Mark and Lard\, has been on the national airwaves since the early nineties and currently hosts the Radio 2 Folk Show and weekend breakfast on 6Music with Stuart Maconie. He was the leader of folk-rock bands The Family Mahone and Galleon Blast and has also written five bestselling books about music. His next publication is ‘Et tu\, cavapoo – one man and his dog in Rome’ which he has co-authored with his canine companion Arlo. \nDavid Boardman is a consummate guitarist and guitar teacher who cut his teeth on the rock circuit with Darktown Jubilee touring not only the UK but also North America and Canada. A gifted visual artist\, Boardman met Radcliffe in their hometown of Knutsford where their writing partnership soon began to flourish. They also compose songs for David’s Americana band Fine Lines. \nTheir act is one of classic simplicity: two voices\, two guitars\, some great original songs\, the odd carefully chosen cover and the occasional rambling anecdote. Their debut album ‘First Light’ is now followed up by their sophomore release ‘Hearsay and Heresy’ on which they have somehow managed to hit the sweet spot between David wanting to do dozens of takes before carefully selecting the best bits and Mark thinking it was alright the first time!
